Story

Hi, I'm Nicholas Smith, the CEO of Happy Haven OSHC.

As someone who has dedicated himself to working in the Out of School Hours Care Sector, the health and wellbeing of children is paramount to me.

My crime is that I had never heard of Childhood Dementia until Chris McDermott spoke about it at a Little Heroes Foundation function I was attending.

With two young children of my own, it scared the life out of me to learn that at any point in time, they might begin to regress, and I would have to watch them lose their functions and many of the unique things that make them so special. With Childhood Dementia receiving very little funding or awareness, I am incredibly grateful to, in some small way, contribute to society learning more about this debilitating condition which will hopefully one day have a cure.

I’d like to call on you to post my bail money by donating via the link.

The more you donate, the more time I serve, giving me ample time to reflect and rejoin society knowing that I’ve done my bit to help raise awareness for childhood dementia.

Little Heroes Foundation Incorporated

In 27 years of operation, Little Heroes Foundation has raised close to $40 million - the majority going towards purchasing lifesaving equipment at Adelaide’s Women’s and Children’s Hospital and providing daily support to families through the Little Heroes Care Program. Little Heroes is also pleased to announce a new partnership with the Childhood Dementia Initiative. There are almost 90 deaths each year from this illness, yet little is known about the 70 different variants of this condition. The Foundation is currently running the campaign ‘Raise it for Renee’, supporting a South Australian mum with all three of her children experiencing the devastating impacts of terminal childhood dementia. Little Heroes has committed $50,000 to support Renee and families like hers. In conjunction with this campaign we are also funding a PhD student in Professor Kim Hemsley's team at Flinders University to assist them with finding potential treatments and cures for childhood dementia. Our partnership with Breakthrough Mental Health Research Foundation continues to grow through our Big Talks for Little People campaign, along with a new commitment towards an Eating Disorder Facility to be built here in South Australia. For more information on our organisation, please visit https://www.littleheroesfoundation.com.au/ As Little Heroes Foundation receives no government funding, the difference that we make to the lives of seriously ill children is not possible without the continued support of people just like you. Fundraising is such an important area for all charities, and thanks to Go Fundraise, it is easy to fundraise for Little Heroes Foundation. Simply click 'Start Fundraising' and follow the prompts to set up your page and get started!
